What is shiatsu? What is acupressure?
Shiatsu and acupressure are forms of Asian Bodywork Therapy. They use pressure, stretching, and other manipulations to relieve stress and pain and to promote health.
Asian Bodywork Therapy is one of the three branches of the ancient tradition of Chinese medicine, the others being acupuncture and herbalism.

What does it cost? Does insurance cover it?
See our fee schedule and discounts here. Unfortunately health insurance plans generally do not cover massage and bodywork therapy, and as a solo practitioner I am not able to bill insurance. You may be able to file for reimbursement or use a health savings account; check your plan and consult a tax professional for more information.
Who is Tom Swiss? What are his qualifications?
Tom Swiss has been practicing in Catonsville since he graduated from the Shiatsu and Asian Bodywork program at the Baltimore School of Massage in 2004.
Besides his private practice, Tom has practiced at one of the Baltimore area's top spas -- and one of its top hospitals, working with chemotherapy outpatients. He's taught shiatsu to massage therapy students at the Potomac Massage Training Institute and the Community College of Baltimore County.
He is certified as a Diplomate in Asian Bodywork Therapy by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, a Certified Practitioner by the American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia, and a Maryland Licensed Massage Therapist.
Where can I schedule my session?
Home Office: 2119 Arlonne Drive, Catonsville, Maryland 21228
(map and directions)
Housecalls available (limited area, additional fee applies).
Also available at the Medispa at Mercy Hospital on the first and third Mondays of each month.
When are you available?
Available hours vary each week but in general you can schedule with me on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons; some Monday afternoons; and in the early evening on some Mondays and Fridays. I also see clients at the Medispa at Mercy Hospital on the first and third Monday afternoons of each month.
Why do people come for Asian Bodywork and massage treatment?
Some people come to have a specific complaint addressed -- often muscle or joint pain, or the same sort of medical complaints people seek acupuncture for: migraines, anxiety, depression, digestive complaints, even fertility issues.
Others come for relaxation, stress relief, and preventative treatment. Best to stop a problem before it starts.
I've worked with people suffering conditions ranging from a pulled muscle to cancer. I don't claim to be able to work miracles, but I believe this work can support you in whatever your health challenges are.
